Quilling Card is the new GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title holder for the largest quilling paper mosaic. The artwork – a rendition of Vincent Van Gogh’s famous Starry Night painting – stands 15.09 feet tall and 19.07 feet wide and was made entirely of rolled, shaped and glued strips of paper to celebrate the ancient art of quilling.

The company also now holds the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for Most people quilling simultaneously, after gathering 300 people to quill together on April 8, 2022 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

In honor of Quilling Card’s tenth anniversary, the work will be on display at MSA Forward 2022 from May 18-22, 2022 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center. The piece represents  thousands of hours of quilling and the paper strips used would stretch 40 miles if laid end-to-end.

Based in Framingham, Massachusetts, Fair Trade Certified Quilling Card employs more than  300 quillers in Vietnam. The team came together to build this piece of art. An official judge from Guinness World Records was on hand to verify both events.

Highlights

• Quilling is the art of rolled, shaped, and glued paper that results in creating a unified, three-dimensional, decorative design. The name quilling is thought to come from the origin of the art; birds’ feathers, or quills, were used to coil the strips of paper around.
• The quilled Starry Night artwork measures 15.09 feet tall by 19.07 feet wide (77 square feet). The original Starry Night painting, currently on display at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, measures 2.5 by 3 feet.
• The quilled artwork took more than 3,900 hours to complete. This is 425 days if one person quilled for 8 hours a day.
• Quillers used 191,948 strips of paper in 18 colors. The paper strips would stretch 40 miles if laid end to end. The paper is held together by 1,226 grams of glue.
• Quilling Card has spent the past decade upholding the ancient art of quilling. By creating greeting cards with quilled art, they have been able to create an affordable, accessible way of keeping the art alive – and have committed to continuously training artisans in the art of quilling.
