Changing the Narrative calls for pro-aging birthday cards

Changing the Narrative, a U.S.-based effort to change the way people think, talk and act about aging and ageism, issued a new call for greeting card designers to create birthday cards that celebrate, instead of denigrate, aging.

In 2020, Changing the Narrative launched an anti-ageist birthday card campaign, recruiting artists to create cards that counter the usual, depressing narrative about getting older. The resulting designs truly celebrate the joys of aging.

According to the organization, the campaign received coverage in over 20 podcasts and media outlets. Additionally, The Greeting Card Association invited Changing the Narrative to deliver the keynote address at its 2021 annual conference.

Keeping in mind the demand for age-positive birthday cards and the growing market of people ages 50-plus in the U.S., the organization calls on greeting card designers to diversify their offerings by including pro-aging products.

Changing the Narrative is looking for established greeting card designers based in the U.S. who are already producing and selling cards and have a site they can share to show off their collections.

Applications are due Oct. 28, and winners will be notified Nov. 2. According to the organization, final designs are due Dec. 16.
