Giddy paperie helps families in Bahamas after hurricane strikes

Hurricane Dorian hit the Bahamas as a Category 5 storm, causing destruction far more unfathomable than most may be able to imagine. One company, giddy paperie, wants to help those affected by the storm, specifically those in Marsh Harbor on Elbow Cay, by offering the Bring Back the Blue Bahamas Relief Mug. It was created by giddy paperie and is now on sale. Proceeds from the mug will help provide aid to individuals affected by the hurricane.

Leslie Chalfont, designer and founder of giddy paperie, explained that in less than 24 hours sales have surpassed the goal it set by 250%. “I’m blown away, which is probably not a good term to use in light of the hurricane, but really I am,” she said.

Chalfont grew up in Florida and has had life-long hurricane experiences. “Over the years, giddy has given to other hurricane victims,” she shared. But the design for the Bring Back the Blue mug actually came about in May. “I was with a group of women on a retreat and ironically, it was about Women and Generous Giving. Little did I know that the very house we were in is now a casualty of the storm. I just had to do something for the locals who live there and love on the visitors so well.”

Chalfont explained that the funds will be given directly to the locals. “I spoke to my friend this morning and as sad as she was about her own house, her first response to me was about the locals and helping them. I knew that would be her heart too,” she said. “They are organizing boats and helicopters to go in and take the supplies directly. They need … everything.”

“Several people commented that the mug will remind them of the Bahamas every day they use it,” she emphasized. “Bring Back the Blue is a nod to the aqua blue waters that the Abacos are known for … they stay with you and need to come back!”
