As 2025 dawns, even the most well-heeled among us are exercising financial prudence. According to then September 2024 Affluent Consumer Research Company’s luxury tracking study, even the upper class is responding to the uncertainty of the economic landscape by carefully evaluating their spending on indulgences.

Moreso, “the prospects for higher taxes on personal income and new taxes on wealth weigh heavily on their personal financial prospects, and on a macro-level, they are very concerned about growing global conflict, political unrest and cybersecurity threats,” explained Pam Danziger of Unity Marketing.

However, the news is not all bad, Danziger analyzed. “Looking forward, affluent consumers plan to strengthen personal relationships with family and friends (47%) and make more time for self-care, hobbies, learning experiences and other activities that lead to personal growth, greater happiness and fulfillment (45%).”

And there lies a bit of hope for stationery to carry us through these difficult times. What better unites the far-flung — and builds a sense of community — than a card? And what helps us achieve our potential better than well-crafted writing instruments, or a planner perfectly suited to our lifestyles, or even learning a new craft?

Utility remains key — but in paper, there is space for fun too, like berries, Western charm or pop culture. While these times will eventually pass, these finds I’ve featured promise to help us all get through them.
