I Will Invitations

Victoria, Australia

1. When and how did you start working in this business?

I Will Invitations began in 2005 shortly after I joined the graphic field. I really loved the whole idea of being able to contribute something timeless and elegant to help create the perfect day for a bride. There’s not a lot of stationery you can find that is considered to be so special that you might find it in an album some 50 years later; that’s definitely a special thing to be a part of.

Since then we’ve expanded our market and have a sideline of children’s party invitations and event stationery. We were also fortunate enough to have won the Wedding Industry Expert awards for Best Invitation Designer Australia, Runner Up World.

2. What is your signature style?

We follow trends but it’s always done with our own spin on things. The Australian bridal stationery suite is slightly different in appearance than elsewhere; we don’t have inner invitations/envelopes or separate reception and ceremony invitations, but our invitations have typically been more folded card oriented. I Will Invitations has really been one of the first in Australia to play with the idea of traditional sizes and presentation and our signature style is an A5 flat done in digital press offering both embellishments and magnetic bellyband.

3. What are your most popular stationery offerings?

Our most popular invitations are those that have a modern take on a timeless idea, so black and white damask invitations are extremely popular, as are ones that have more formality in them. We haven’t moved as quickly as the American themes in some circles, so the more whimsical themes generally tend to be used for engagement parties, leaving the wedding more formal.

4. Please share the direction your line will be taking.

I Will Invitations has always endeavored to deliver a line that has numerous products in it so our clients can have their choice, not feel restrained, and so our lines will be expanded to create more accessories and invitation sizes. At the moment we’re really inspired with the use of botanicals, stripes and the use of color.

5. What are your top three tips for success?

1. Perseverance: Your business doesn’t get seen overnight and whilst we would all love to be in the studio designing, you need to be able to devote a part of yourself to the outer workings of exposure, advertising and networking.

2. Attitude: Clients have employed you to bring to fruition their visions. If your attitude is radiant when dealing with them, your work will be, too.

3. Reliability: When dealing with wedding clients and event customers, the turnover time is crucial. Miss a deadline and the guests won’t be informed of the event. My clients can get quite nervous about deadlines, so I always try to alleviate that by keeping them informed

regularly and making sure everything is triple checked to avoid mistakes that could be time consuming to rectify.
