Gift/Home

Gifts and products for the home are catching consumers’ attention. “Gifting is not just about expressing care for another person, there is a lot of identity wrapped up in what someone gives to another person,” Chris Gray, Psy.D. of Buycology noted. “It says something about you, that you are a thoughtful and caring person.” With this important mental shift comes redefined Gift/Home markets. Keep reading to see their new dimensions!

What’s Hot
“The last year has brought home the fact that cultivating a warm, comforting and safe living space can bring great joy and reassurance in tough times,” revealed Andrea Brown, vice president creative, Danica Imports.

Brown notes that most of the trends they are seeing impart a peaceful sense of comfort and joy, or small moments of self care and calm. They include: organic shapes and unexpected textures inspired by Matisse cutwork; desert-inspired palettes with earthy, calming neutrals paired with peachy pinks and rich clay oranges; rainbows, clouds and other organic shapes; reliable, loving cat and dog companions, and green spaces or garden patches.

Also Look For
“I think there is a definite shift towards creating intentional, peaceful and whimsical spaces, and filling those spaces with unique works of art and décor,” agreed Erin McManness, Paper Raven Co. “Trends like arches, pops of bold color on a neutral palette, and lots of texture are front and center in the home and gift market.”

Tried and True
For many, reducing one’s ecological footprint has become entrenched, continued Brown. “A shift towards adapting responsible and eco-conscious habits has become a permanent fixture for our customers. From our reusable shopping and produce bags, to our Ecologie by Danica Beeswax wraps and our Swedish Sponge Cloths, the demand is growing for green alternatives to single-use paper and plastic.”

Meanwhile, “I don’t think florals and botanicals will ever go out of style, McManness underlined. “They’re so versatile!”

Designer Quote
“The bold, poppy colors of this year’s trends have really been inspiring me. I’ve had more fun taking risks with big color choices. After a year filled with isolation, uncertainty and struggle for many people, I think bringing bold colors and fun, whimsical imagery into your home and gift-giving is that tiny moment of escape people are really enjoying right now.” – Erin McManness, Paper Raven Co
