NSS Names 2011 Best New Product Award Winners

Eight National Stationery Show (NSS) exhibitors were honored with Best New Product Awards on Opening Day, Sunday, May 15, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The awards were presented in eight categories and are considered a distinguished honor within the social stationery industry.

Winners of the 15th annual Best New Product Awards are:

All Things Wedding
Pistachio Press (Rochester, N.Y.), for Telegram Wedding Invitation, a playful invitation inspired by 1940s telegrams, letterpress printed on 100 percent cotton paper using an antique printing press.

Celebrations
Design Design, Inc. (Grand Rapids, Mich.), for Piece of Cake, a giftable stationery set featuring eight notepads in the shape of a generous piece of cake, with a gem-topped pen.

Eco-Chic
Paper Parasol Press (Chicago, Ill.), for Paper Parasol Press, a line of cards printed with 100 percent green, renewable hydroelectric energy and hand-pulled on a vintage Vandercook No. 3 proofing press.

Lifestyle
Got Skins? (Kernersville, N.C.), for Hi-Tech Swag, 3M waterproof, removable decal covers for technological devices such as phones, iPads, e-readers, laptops and more.

Luxury
Metalpress Designs (Austin, Texas), for Metalpress, a product and process that allows designers to combine the beauty and artistry of thin, polished metal designs to create couture invitations and accompanying event collateral.

Paper Style
Sapling Press (Pittsburg, Pa.), for Dear Blank, a letterpress printed card inspired by the popular website dearblankpleaseblank.com, featuring black ink on soft white, paired with a PCW brown bag envelope.

The Desktop
M. Middleton (Grand Rapids, Mich.), for Dress the Desk Collection, a new print-on-demand collection that includes everything needed for a well-dressed desk, including a desk blotter, paper weight, desk calendar, photo file, clipboard with notepad, note sheets, address labels and note cards.

Delegate’s Choice
Haute Papier (Washington, DC), for Bold & Bright Foil Enclosure, bright notes available in 12 foil colors with an extensive liner library, offering an endless combination of styles.

“This year’s Best New Product competition is one for the record books, with nearly 500 product launches vying for the coveted title,” said Patti Stracher, show manager. “The winning products are phenomenal, from fun and unique to luxurious and trend-setting. Look for them to make a splash in the marketplace.”

Judges for the 15th annual Best New Product Awards were Caroline Kennedy, Gifts & Decorative Accessories; Melody Udell, Giftware News; Dorothy Creamer, GREETINGS etc.; Abby Heugel, Museums & More; Kimberly Warren, Party & Paper Retailer; Sarah Schwartz, Stationery Trends; and Jaimie Dalessio, The Knot. In addition, an esteemed group of VIP retailers – NSS Delegates – selected the Delegate’s Choice Award winner.

Nearly 500 entries were judged based on innovative product design or concept, how the product answers an industry need, aesthetic appeal, creative use of materials and innovative packaging.

The 65th annual National Stationery Show, the nation’s leading marketplace for the social stationery industry, runs Sunday, May 15, through Wednesday, May 18, at New York City’s Jacob K. Javits Convention Center.
