Why younger consumers are embracing Easter

A variety of holiday-related activities are spurring additional spending by the younger consumer, according to Katie Jordan, manager, Research and Industry Insights, National Retail Federation.

Approximately eight in ten adults will celebrate Easter and spend about $151 per person on gift items, which include clothing, candy, cards and flowers, according to the article. Even individuals who don’t celebrate will purchase holiday-related items during this season.

Those under age 35 really embrace every aspect of the holiday, from the traditional to the whimsical. These younger consumers are even more likely than the average adult to say they plan on celebrating Easter and are the only age group that’s seen a consistent increase in those celebrating compared with a decade ago.

Jodan noted today’s consumers are adding quite a different variety of items to baskets this Easter Holiday, citing merchandise displays are a source of inspiration for people under the age of 35.
