Small brands urge communities to shop local amid tariff pressures

With small retailers navigating increasing expenses due to policy changes, the message is clear: the power of people prevails.

“Every local sale supports not just your favorite boutique or gift shop, but your entire town,” said Elizabeth Hoenscheid, owner of Top it Off Accessories in West Roxbury, a neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. “In the face of rising costs, the choice to shop local is more powerful than ever.”

This renewed call to action encourages consumers to make intentional spending choices that uplift:

  • Local employment opportunities
  • A vibrant Main Street
  • A dream that began modestly and continues to matter deeply

“We’re urging fellow brands, sales representatives, store owners and local shoppers to come together in support of small business,” Hoenscheid said. “Let’s reignite the shop small spirit we saw in 2020 — with even greater resolve.”

Now is the time to stand up for small businesses. Every purchase from a local boutique or gift shop is more than a transaction — it’s a vote for community, resilience and heart.
