Project to raise funds to buy books, stationery and shoes for needy school children

Going to school can be tough for some students.

But it’s even tougher for them if their parents can’t afford the latest pair of shoes, new books and new stationery materials.

Jarrod Murphy said he learned of the plight of some students struggling with school life in Orange after talking to teachers.

So, the Orange member of the Forever, Together, Wherever Brotherhood, an international group of people keen to support each other, is reaching out to help the students.

“Some students, they don’t have the right books, the right pens and even a pair of shoes the right size,” he said.

“Why should any child miss out?”

Mr Murphy is calling for donations of cash and items to aid the children.

“We are trying to look after as many of them as we can,” he said.

“We’ve been receiving numerous donations.”

On Saturday January 6 he has organised a fund-raising barbecue and raffles at the IGA supermarket in Peisley Street from noon to 3pm.

He said everything donated would be sent to the principals of the Orange and Canobolas Rural Technology high schools and Orange Public School to allocate to students in need.
