Patent Press Greeting Cards is being given away to help others

Bob Hickey, owner and founder of Patent Press Greeting Cards, is giving away his business to help people at Lifetime Assistance — an organization that offers a “full spectrum of services to empower individuals with developmental disabilities.”

Patent Press Greeting Cards, based in Rochester, New York, started growing more in wake of the pandemic. Hickey balances his time between his greeting card business, but also works at Lifetime Assistance, where he has been helping individuals with disabilities.

Hickey’s card creations initially featured art located on patent applications, but when COVID-19 changed so much of everyday life, he crafted options to spark some cheer — some cards will even point out the funny things that happened during the onslaught of the pandemic — the lack of toilet paper!

This year, even more has changed in Hickey’s life — he has decided to give Lifetime Assistance his greeting card business. This donation will allow individuals the organization works with to be part of the accomplishments of  Patent Greeting Cards — from packing and shipping them all across this country.

This is truly a heartwarming, yet sorrowful donation, as Hickey is dying from pancreatic cancer and hopes his work continues well into the future. In a feature on local news station, WHAM 13, Lifetime Assistance CEO Jamie Branciforte shared his thoughts: “…for Bob to think about us in this way, the people in our service this way, during his last days speaks volumes about who he is.”

The transition for Patent Press Greeting Cards is under way and soon it will be integrated with Lifetime Assistance. Although all orders are currently on hold, the ability to place orders will resume once the business migration has been completed.

Annette Hickey, wife, reached out to Stationery Trends to share this story of hope and kindness even during her time of challenges: “One of our local news anchors did a feature story on Bob on how he is donating his greeting card business, Patent Press Greeting Cards, to his employer Lifetime Assistance.  Lifetime helps people with developmental disabilities. I hope that the link I am sending has the video and not just the transcript. The story came out beautifully and the video is much better.”
