Mary Meyer sends Australia wildlife relief

Mary Meyer has sent much needed funds to help the wildlife of Australia rebound from the devastating fires that raged through Australia during their last summer season (Nov. 2019 through Feb. 2020). As the fires grew in late 2019, Mary Meyer pledged 5% of the sales from its new Down Under Mates line to go directly to the World Wildlife Fund of Australia (WWF-Australia). Although the fires have been out for some months, summer in Australia will begin again soon and officials in Australia are already working against a repeat of last year’s disaster.

Down Under Mates from Mary Meyer

“2020 has already proved to be a year of incredible challenge,” said Dermot O’Gorman, CEO for WWF-Australia. Beyond recovery from last year, Mary Meyer’s donation will go towards increasing capabilities around responding to wildlife emergencies such as this, restoring the habitat for the animals — and the humans — involved in the fires, and working to protect Australia’s most vulnerable species and habitats from future fire dangers.

“This is one of those situations we look for in our charitable work, where our toys and the animals that inspire them overlap,” said Steven Meyer, marketing and design director (and grandson) at Mary Meyer. “We know that the news cycle moves pretty quickly these days and that so much has happened since the fires, but Mary used to tell us, ‘Integrity is what you do when no one is looking.’”
