HRH The Prince of Wales celebrates Earth Day with children’s book reading
To mark Earth Day, HRH The Prince of Wales has set children the challenge of illustrating their vision for a sustainable world.
The Prince’s Foundation, of which His Royal Highness is President, has released a video of The Prince reading the foreword he wrote for It’s Up To Us, an inspiring children’s book about climate change and the result of a collaboration between The Prince’s Foundation, What On Earth Publishing and the Sustainable Markets Initiative which follows on from the launch of The Terra Carta.
In the message, he says: “Take out a blank piece of paper and draw, paint or write about the future you would like to see. One that puts nature at the heart of everything we do. That way we can share our ideas with as many people as possible. And together we can help make our planet strong and healthy for generations to come.”
His Royal Highness has for decades championed more sustainable ways of learning and living, and his Foundation delivers education and training programs to encourage younger generations to be the catalyst for widespread practical change towards a greener future.
Beautifully illustrated by 33 artists from all over the world, It’s Up To Us is written by world history author Christopher Lloyd. It begins with a beautiful, lyrical and thought-provoking introduction to Nature, moving on to the threats we face and finishing with an action plan for the future. The featured artists come from all over the world ranging from Iceland, North America, and Europe to Kenya, Aboriginal Australia, Korea, Japan and China. Initially released in the UK in November 2021, the book is now being launched across the USA and China due to its success.
The book was heavily inspired by the work being done by The Prince’s Foundation at its Dumfries House headquarters to educate children about sustainability. The charity runs a wide variety of hands-on education programs at the Ayrshire estate for visiting school pupils which aim to encourage them to engage with nature, and think about the holistic ways in which they can help the planet.
