Designer Greetings acquires Northern Exposure Greeting Cards

Designer Greetings Inc. has acquired Northern Exposure Greeting Cards from owners Bruce Henson and Jack Freed, who recently announced their plans to retire.

Northern Exposure was founded in 1993 when Henson and Freed, both professional photographers, launched a line of photo-imaged everyday and seasonal greeting cards.

Steven Gimbelman, President and CEO of Designer Greetings, said that Northern Exposure is an exciting acquisition for the company and their designs are a wonderful complement to Designer Greetings’ current collections. “Bruce and Jack have done an incredible job,” he said. “They had the vision to take their photographic greeting card line from inception to one of the world’s leading humor card lines. Their diligence and passion for success is evident in their product—the clever dynamic of pairing vibrant photographs with clever editorial has made this a line that truly stands out. We look forward to expanding upon the successful brand that Bruce and Jack built.”

Last month Designer Greetings acquired The Madison Park Group. With Northern Exposure, this marks the ninth acquisition for the greeting card company since 2006. Others include Card$mart, Glitterwrap, Red Farm Studio, Royal Greetings, enGreet, Treasure Greetings and Mike’s Distributing.

Family-owned-and-operated since 1982, Designer Greetings is a leader in the greeting card industry. With more than 22,000 designs, the company is one of the largest publishers in North America.
