Alene Candles expands operations

Alene Candles, a full-service contract and private-label candle manufacturers, is expanding its New Hampshire operations with the opening of a new warehouse facility in Amherst, New Hampshire. The new facility will add 12 new positions and nearly 200,000 square feet to Alene Candles’ current footprint, enabling the company to keep pace with growing demand for its custom-designed filled candles for the gift, cosmetic and retail markets.

Alene Candles is headquartered in Milford, New Hampshire, and also has an expansive operation in New Albany, Ohio, a suburb of Columbus. In October 2020, the company expanded its Ohio presence with a new $30 million, 280,000-square-foot facility located in the New Albany Business Park’s Personal Care and Beauty Innovation Campus.

“With individuals spending more time at home during the pandemic, the demand for candles skyrocketed,” said Rod Harl, president and CEO of Alene Candles. “Our new Amherst warehouse is a strategic, long-term investment, enabling us to keep pace with current orders from our retail partners and position us for continued growth. We are excited to expand our New Hampshire presence and bring additional jobs to the Amherst community, which has provided us with a warm welcome.”

The Amherst warehouse will include 12,000 square-feet of office space and 12 new positions, including more supervisory roles for its manufacturing floor employees. These new jobs are part of the 250+ full-time and seasonal openings at Alene Candles’ New Hampshire facilities. In addition to expanded storage space for finished goods, the new location will enable the company to offer decorated glass as an added benefit to customers.

Governor Christopher T. Sununu recently toured Alene Candles to address workforce challenges in the manufacturing industry and speak with the company’s CEO, Rod Harl, about efforts to support workforce recruitment in New Hampshire. In addition to the Governor’s Summer Stipend Program, Alene Candles is offering sign-on bonuses up to $1,200 for some critical, permanent positions.

Alene Candles employs more than 200 people in southern New Hampshire and northern Massachusetts year-round. Alene’s workforce expands to more than 1,200 at the start of the holiday production season in summer.
