Ten Designers to Watch in 2022: Juliana (aka JuJu) Kissick
Juliana (AKA JuJu) Kissick from Good Juju Ink is one of the Ten Designers to Watch in 2022. Read more about her in this Q&A.
Aesthetic of the Line?
Good Juju Ink sits at the intersection of modern emotionality and enchanted, Old World illustration. Our style is classically literary. All line work has movement and emotion; even inanimate objects have soul. We use gold foil for days and never swear (on our products, that is). We do, however, LOVE a good pun, especially the animal variety.
Current Bestseller?
Rainbow Pacifier.
Personal Favorite?
Eye of Horus Spiral Notebook. It was a bucket list moment when The Boston Museum of Fine Art selected our entire Egypt Collection for their store.
Surprise Hit?
Snail Mail Forever. Yay for big, gooey, letter-delivering snails!
Iconic Selection?
Cheesy Valentine. A rodent passionately caressing a giant piece of fromage? That’s exactly the illustrative iconographical mark I’m making on this industry.
Favorite Color?
Pantone’s 2013 Color of the year, Emerald Green — ’tis far better to be green with emeralds than green with envy, dahhling.
Current Design Obsession?
I’m balls (ovaries?) deep in researching the golden age of bookbinding. These gold-leafed, embossed, debossed, screen-printed, silk-bound beauties are museum quality works of art!!
Favorite Flower?
Blue Scottish Thistle. I wore them in my hair on my wedding day.
Favorite Indulgence?
Shopping for antiques on 1stDibs at 2 a.m. while eating an ungodly amount of double-stuffed Oreos and binge-watching The Great British Baking Show. I’m a multi-pronged indulger. An indulgent indulger, if you will.
