PG Live 2017 celebrates strong card market

The biggest ever PG Live show – which took place from 6-7 June 2017 – was the most successful event so far, according to organiser Max Exhibitions, with an impressive visitor list featuring high-profile buyers, independents and overseas distributors alike.

The high-energy show got off to a strong start with former Curiosity Killed The Cat saxophonist  Graeme Airth welcoming in the early birds. The friendly, enthusiastic atmosphere proved particularly conducive to business, and it wasn’t long before the aisles filled up and exhibitors were taking their first orders.

The show floor was positively buzzing with the sound of greeting card buyers from right across the retail spectrum making their selections for the coming year, choosing from some of the most creative and original designs on the market. Some of the leading names who visited included: Paperchase, John Lewis, Scribbler, Clintons, Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Next, Waterstones, Oliver Bonas, Squires, Waitrose, WHSmith, Card Factory, Dobbies, Cards Galore, Amazon, House of Fraser, TKMaxx, McColls and Ocado, as well as a whole host of regional and independent retailers.

A number of exhibitors reported record-breaking numbers of orders being placed and new accounts opened, with a boost in the numbers of overseas buyers and export business proving a particular highlight.

The Springboard area – dedicated to up-and-coming publishers – proved to be a particular focus for many, with over 160 talented creatives making the most of the unique opportunity to showcase their latest designs and creations.

“I always love this show,” said John Lewis’ buyer Lisa Rutherford. “It is really spirited! We have seen every single one of the 280 stands and are so impressed with the creativity out there.”

“PG Live is definitely one of our favourite shows,” agreed Jane Apps, owner of Paper Turtle in Lewes. “It’s a great location and although a decent size, you can see it all in a day. We especially loved the Springboard area which was buzzing with creativity!”

“Glasses were raised, orders were placed, Gold and Silver Tickets were spent and friendships were made – there’s no denying that PG Live 2017 was a wonderful celebration of the greeting card industry,” said Warren Lomax, joint show director. “We would like to thank each and every one of you for coming along and helping to make PG Live the success that it is. We’ll see you in 2018, for our tenth anniversary!”

The dates for the 2018 show – our big 10th anniversary year – have been confirmed as Tuesday 5 to Wednesday 6 June 2018, so pop the date in your diary now and get planning!
