Panel Picks Trendy Stationer Winners

The results are in, and the winners of the second annual Stationery Trends Trendy Stationer of the Year and Trendy Online Stationer of the Year have been determined. These awards recognize retailers for their commitment to and excellence in the stationery industry, and retailers were self-nominated, peer-nominated or manufacturer-nominated.

Trendy Stationer of the Year honors went to Daniel Mulhern of M Milestones in New Canaan, Conn., while runner-up honors went to Heidi Campbell of Stationery Loft & Gift Boutique in Lakeland, Fla. and Joan Flax and Philip Clark of Flax to Pen Paper in Los Angeles.

“I feel it is an honor to be recognized by the stationery industry,” Mulhern said. “It is so exciting to have your peers and industry business partners appreciate what you’ve done to impact not only the your individual business, but also how one can impact the vendor side as well.”

Mulhern said he focuses on “the Three P’s”- People (good staff members), Product (select quality products, reliable vendors and exciting merchandise) and Presentation (in-store merchandising.)

“I’m so proud that the my sales team gets the opportunity to see that the industry appreciates how all the elements that we focus on are noticed by our clients, other retailers and vendors,” Mulhern said.

Runner-up Heidi Campbell has been in business for four years and said she was shocked to win the award, seeing as they are a young store.

“There are so many fantastic stationers in this country,” Campbell said. “It is unbelievable to me that the judges felt we had developed to a level to be considered on equal footing with such amazing places. We work really hard to meet the expectations of our customers and show everyone how wonderful stationery can be.

“We feel blessed to be judged so favorably by people who really ‘get it,'” she continued. “Being recognized by people who know what’s involved in this industry is the most incredible honor I could ever imagine.”

The award for Trendy Online Stationer of the Year went to Renee Redman of TheStationeryStudio.com, while runner-up honors went to Michelle Burry Harwood of Bumpercards LLC.

TheStationeryStudio.com started in a living room 18 years ago and has grown into a premier website with more than 10,000 unique visitors a day and a reputation for excellence.

“One of the greatest honors is when members of your industry recognize your hard work, dedication and contributions,” Redman said. “We truly enjoy showcasing and promoting custom personalized stationery and gifts and believe in this industry and the business of gracious living. Sending beautiful thank you notes, giving thoughtful personalized presents and entertaining in style shows an appreciation for all things lovely and is the basis for the success of our business. This award is a symbol of what it truly means to ‘dare to dream.'”

“It’s huge to be recognized by the people who are actually the ones creating the industry,” agreed runner-up Burry Harwood of Bumpercards LLC. “There is so much talent and so many amazing stationery companies out there. To stand out in the eyes of your peers is pretty incredible.”

Highly esteemed stationery professionals judged the entrants and included: Kseniya Thomas, Thomas Printers; Anna Bond, Rifle Paper Co.; Kim Kreis, Sweet Pea Designs LLC; and Gayle O’Donnell, Paper Passionista.
