The National Stationery Show announces Buyer Education schedule

The National Stationery Show will present six buyer education seminars during the show May 21-24, 2017 at the Javits Center in New York City. Industry experts will focus on topics including website/email best practices, in-store special events, color/design forecasts, and success tips for small businesses. In addition, two programs will feature panels – one exploring successful strategies to maintain a robust bridal business and the second featuring women entrepreneurs at the top of their game who will share their secrets to building successful stores and brands.

“We are pleased to offer a new line-up of entertaining, motivational and informative seminars at this year’s Show,” said Kelly P. Bristol, NSS show director. “Attendees will gain fresh insight on marketing tools and emerging trends that will help them grow their businesses in the coming year.”

The Unbridled Success Path for Wedding Invitation Sales

Business consultant, writer and speaker Brian Lawrence will provide an understanding of the changing climate of the stationery and wedding industry, as well as insights on how to address changing consumer behavior (or win over the new bride) with smart marketing strategies. A panel of top brick-and-mortar invitation retailers, including Andrea Caesar of Paper Works and Events, Arlene Cronk of Invitations & Company, Melinda Morris of Lion in the Sun, Steve Pastor of Alpine Creative Group, and Staci Rahamin of Sincerely Staci, will address industry issues and share how they have adjusted their business models and continue to flourish.

In this fast-moving session, David M. Fellman, president, David Fellman & Associates, will cover five strategies that are especially appropriate to small businesses. Attendees will learn solid and relevant ideas on making their businesses more successful, including: how to be more visible in the marketplace; how to build a better, stronger team; how to get all the value from customers; how to plug time-management leaks; and how to be a more effective negotiator.

Boss Ladies: The Secrets Behind Successful Stationery Stories

A panel of top stationery retailers and makers whose style and smarts have led to their success will be interviewed by Sarah Schwartz, editor-in-chief, Stationery Trends magazine. These extraordinary women will share their entrepreneurial savvy on such areas as finding a voice, distinguishing and nurturing store/brand identity, growing a business and overcoming obstacles. There will also be ample time to pick the brains of this marvelous panel of industry leaders.

Communicating with Color/Design: Inspiring and Defining Essential Trends

Leatrice Eiseman, executive director, Pantone Color Institute, and executive director, Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training, will present an on-target trend report that focuses on eight distinctively designed palettes, each with recommended color combinations that will help to inspire and inform attendees. In this digitally directed, Instagram- and Pinterest-centric world, color and design trends can be communicated almost instantaneously to customers who are seeking original and more imaginative approaches to decorating their homes. For that reason, it is vital that retailers stay well ahead of the curve on the leading forecasts.

Drive Traffic and Boost Sales with In-Store Classes and Special Events

In-store special events are a great strategy to attract new customers, reward loyal shoppers and create dynamic partnerships with other local businesses. Adding in-store classes to the mix offers a fresh approach to marketing. This session led by Patti Biro of Patti Biro and Associates, will focus on easy-to-implement, high-impact events that drive foot traffic, sales and social-media buzz that are affordable. Learn how to create a unique, special-event calendar to add marketing sizzle and give customers a reason to return again and again.

The NSS is moving its location within the Javits Center. The show will be held on Level One in Halls 1A-1C. Buyer Registration, the LOUIE and Best New Product displays, will be on the Concourse Level between the three entrances leading to the Show floor. The exhibit floor is also adjacent to meeting rooms for buyer education, allowing attendees to move more easily between the NSS floor and seminar sessions.
