Marsala Announced as Pantone Color of the Year
Marsala has been announced as the Pantone color of the year for 2015, and the shade color experts believe will be reflected in fashion, home décor and graphic and industrial design trends next year.
In a release issued Thursday, Pantone describes the color as “a naturally robust and earthy wine red.”
Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said the color would enrich the mind, body and soul.
“Much like the fortified wine that gives Marsala its name, this tasteful hue embodies the satisfying richness of a fulfilling meal, while its grounding red-brown roots emanate a sophisticated, natural earthiness,” Eiseman said in the release. “This hearty, yet stylish tone is universally appealing and translates easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings and interiors.”
In order to arrive at its color of the year, Pantone said it seeks color influences around the world, including in the fashion and entertainment industries.
Pantone is wholly owned by X-Rite, Inc., which develops and markets color software and support systems, among other products.
Pantone’s chosen color of the year for 2014 was radiant orchid, and 2013’s color was emerald.
